Piotr Wyrzykowski
Piotr Wyrzykowski alias Peter Style is a media artist, performer and set designer. Studied interior architecture and media art at the Fine Arts Academy in Gdansk. He made his debut as a performer in 1990. In his practice he uses video, photography, Internet and sound - creating performances, installations, projects in public space, network projects and multimedia plays.
In the 1990s, he was an active participant of the Gdańsk art scene. A co-founder of the Open Atelier Foundation (former city bath house), and vice-president of the Wyspa Progress Foundation. Cofounder and artistic director of CUKT – Central Office of Technical Culture. The best known project of the group was ‘Presidential Campaign of Wiktoria Cukt’ that proposed a virtual candidate for the President of Poland.
He was particularly interested in the impact of new technologies on human life as well as the new avenues they create for artistic practice. Using modern techniques, the artist looks at the process of digital transformation of the reality and the emergence of virtual worlds (“There Is No Body”). His video works also combine an exploration of the medium with its documentary character. He's work “Beta Nassau” (1993) is in the collection of MoMA, New York. Lives and works in Gdansk and Kiev.
